President Bartram (L-AZ) on the Issues

Abortion - AGAINST
I have never been a supporter of executing innocent babies. Unlike most conservatives, however, I do make exceptions. I don't believe that anyone should be forced to carry a baby to term if they were raped, if the baby is a product of incest (consensual or otherwise), if the mother's life would likely be lost, or if it is determined that the baby would likely be born with severe defects (Down's Syndrome, major physical deformity, etc.). I do not approve of abortion being used as birth control for those too stupid to use it in the first place. However, I think on the first abortion request, I think the person desiring the abortion should be educated about it and given the abortion if they still desire it. Second abortion comes with counseling, and temporary sterilization (Norplant or the like). The third abortion would be the last, with permanent sterilization.

Border Control - FOR
When the founding fathers spent years risking life and limb to establish the United States, I don't think they ever had in mind that one day their southern border would be overrun by ungrateful people that would refuse to learn the native culture or even the native language. No, instead it is America that is expected to convert to their customs and traditions. This enormous influx of illegals, yes, I said illegals (calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist"), is causing great harm to this country's financial situation, its educational standards, and its healthcare standards. These people are taking and giving nothing back. Well, not on my watch, I think it is time to militarize and close all the borders! Then, we should throw a chain around New York Harbor and say, "Enough is enough!"

Flat/Fair Tax - FOR
A flat tax, such as 17% of your earnings, is a fair tax. There would be no need for an Internal Revenue Service or tax preparation services with such a tax. A flat tax would be paid be every worker, regardless of the amount of their income. So, using 17%, a worker earning only $10,000 a year would pay $1700 annually, and a person earning $1,000,000 a year would pay $170,000 annually in taxes. There would be no deductions, tax shelters, or the like to confuse things. The tax could be set up either annually, biannually, quarterly, or monthly. Taxpayers would figure their annual salary, deduct 17%, and send it in. The IRS and the tax preparation services would be closed and out of business.

Gay Marriage - AGAINST
In a nation where Caucasian marriage and birth rates are on the decline, I think for homosexuals to make a mockery of the concept of marriage and procreation is wrong. Caucasians are being out-reproduced in this country by large margins, and in some counties and metropolitan areas, the Caucasians that settled the areas are now the minority. I think this is a dangerous trend and needs to be reversed.

"Global Warming" - AGAINST
I'm not going to get into this one much, as more and more scientists and specialists refute the supposed wisdom of Al Gore. This theory is a crock, and most intelligent people know it. The ozone layer is disappearing! No it isn't, it's grown and shrunk since it was discovered. The same is true with the polar ice caps. Last year there was record ice in the Antarctic. If Al Gore would shut is "green" mouth and keep all of his hot gas in it, maybe he wouldn't feel so warm. He may want to lose a little weight, too, as that may contribute to his personal warmth.

Government Handouts - AGAINST
I am absolutely against any kind of government assistance (other than after a major disaster). I don't believe that the government should issue food stamps, welfare checks, unemployment checks, or anything of the like. It does not encourage people to fulfill their own potential. People that have more children than they can afford should not be a burden to those that were responsible. In old age, I believe that one or one's family should be responsible for their care and interment, not the government. Social Security to should immediately cease to be removed from paychecks, and the people that have paid in can collect until death. Thereafter the entire program and huge government department should be terminated.

"Gun Control" - AGAINST
One of the founding concepts of the United States was that the citizenry needed a way to prevent the government from becoming overbearing and out of control. The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America does not place any conditions on what type of firearms can be owned by citizens. While I don't personally believe that your average citizen needs an AK47 or an Uzi to go hunting or for personal defense, I would not go against the Second Amendment.

National ID Card - FOR
I think this is an excellent idea. This card could be used as your driver's license, government identification, passport, Social Security card (if the Social Security Administration remains), and your banking card. Eventually, all of this information could be embedded in a chip in your index finger, and you could just swipe your finger for everything, and have to carry nothing that could get lost. I love it!

War on Terror - FOR
September 11, 2001, forever changed the world. That day, which will like Pearl Harbor Day, live in infamy, thrust the Untied States into seemingly non-ending warfare. While I approve of fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here, I would like to see the use of some of the arsenal of new weapons, and start pulling the troops. Let's win this thing and come home!
